Welcome to The Home Page of the

Pwllheli & District Angling Association

Formed in 1952 to keep the fishing on the rivers Erch and Rhydhir open to local anglers, to encourage angling and the promotion and betterment of the fisheries of the Llŷn Peninsula. The Pwllheli & District Angling Association has gone from strength to strength over the years. Acquiring the fishing rights for Llyn Cwmystradllyn in 1985 was a natural development for the association, and it has become our primary fishery.

Situated on the south western foothills of Snowdonia, Llyn Cwmystradllyn is a stunning fishery. The nearest still water to the Osprey nest at Aberglaslyn, we are considering making them honorary members.

Fishery rules allow angling with fly, spinner or worm, this opens up the lake to anglers who would not normally fish in such waters.

Stocked with Rainbow Trout to supplement the prolific stock of wild Brownies.

The water quality has to be seen to be believed, gin clear even after very heavy rain and gales. What looks 1m deep can be 3m or deeper.

Even if you don't fish it's still worth a visit to our beautiful lake. Come up, bring the family and make use of our picnic tables by the car park or go for a walk. An OS map will show you many public footpaths in the lake area. But note that this is a wild and mountainous area, so bring suitable clothing, footwear and equipment.

The rivers Erch and Rhydhir both flow into Pwllheli harbour, we control the fishing on 6 miles of the Erch and 1 mile of the Rhydhir. As with most of the Welsh rivers they are not as prolific in Sea Trout and Salmon as they used to be in the 1960s and 70s. But they still have a decent run and are open until the 31st of October.

The Brown Trout in these rivers will never be huge but on a light fly rod do provide an interesting challenge, to be enjoyed.
